YAKITORI | 一杯屋 (Yi Pai Ya)

Continuing the Yakitori theme, revisiting again our reigning champion of the category. As mentioned time and again, the main draw card of the place is certainly the genuine bincho-tan grill. After years of perfection, it is safe to say that any of the chef there can now master it quite well. From the usual chicken related skewers to robata dishes, price quality ratio here is still different to match for its peers. Ingredients are of quality and yet traditional thus to my likings, with no fancy dishes the likes of foie-gras. While the sake/shochu list certainly got rooms to improve, the house sake/shochu that comes in a unique container is certainly value for money and of decent quality. A best kept secret is probably its nabe, from the featured gyu-tan nabe to the very basic and yet authentic kimchi one. While one may feel a lack of staff when it’s busy, the service level is certainly of Japanese standard. Still our best pick.
