YAKITORI | 酉玉 (Toritama)

So it came much faster than what LG had expected. Originally from Shirokane, Tokyo and hailed by yours truly as the best Yakitori south of Japan when tried earlier in the year in Singapore, a speedy visit was arranged once it opened in town thanks to the heads up of sake buddy JM. While it was delivered as expectedly without real charcoal, being located at a posh residential area in Central, everything else was pretty much up to standard and comparable to the one in the Lion City. With the signature rare parts of the chicken, from the heart to the tail (local fresh chicken utilised), Chef Matsumoto-san, sent from its Tokyo headquarters, did the impossible to utilise the electric grill to its fullest and closely resembled the texture of those done on a char-grill, barring the nose. The lovely skewers were paired up with two rare bottles of sake thanks to LG’s fellow diners though the place also boosted a nice sake menu hand picked by Sommelier Yamanaka-san, who was with Gyu-gin in town before joining here as restaurant manager. Remember to pre order some rare dishes when you make your booking and don’t forget to try its grilled cheese that are truly out of this world. Certainly a contestant for this year’s Yakitori title.
